Malibu Hotel, zushi

(small luxury hotel)

situation

The Malibu Hotel offers a window to luxury, a place to relax to the rhythms of the sea and the sky. The accommodations are stylish, spacious, and plush, with views of the marina through oversized windows and, in some cases, a furnished terrace. A small spa is present — an unusual touch for a hotel of this size — as are two restaurants, including Malibu Farm, a Californian-inspired concept from the American restaurateur and chef Helene Henderson.

The Malibu Hotel wanted to elevate the overall brand and marketing strategy. The hotel would act as the nucleus of a campus that would include wedding venues, sporting facilities, retail, food & beverage and fine-dining.

my role

Malibu Hotel was rebranded by Shuichi Narita when I came on the project. I helped with collateral such as this pamphlet where they wanted to keep it minimal design with a nod to their hotel concept of “window to luxury”. Through this, I also collaborated with the art director to create a system throughout the branding. We wanted to capture the culture and lifestyle the site was renowned for and appealed to the broader market through its branding and marketing. This was one of the first Japanese projects I worked on when I moved to Tokyo.
